Protein Supplements: What to look for, and what to avoid. Today I’m going to talk about the different kinds of protein, and what you might want to look out of when picking your protein. Alright, so here we have at Icon Gym, it’s called NoWay Protein by ATB Science.  So this is a hydrolyzed, collagen protein. 40% of the protein in your body is made up of collagen.  Collagen is going to help your connective tissues, this particular product is actually better research shows, better at muscle building than things like whey.  The percentage-I’m not really sure, it’s not that much-but at the same time this is very easily digestible, whereas people with dairy issues or dairy allergies may not tolerate whey as well. So some things that you really might want to look out for on your proteins, on the back of the bag or bottle, are fillers. So things like maltodextrin and some of these other products that they just add in to make the product look better or sound better to a lot of people, right?  So, when you’re looking at protein powder, a few things you want to look for is just a basic protein in the ingredients.  You also want to look for something like “Stevia” or, you just don’t want it to have all these fake sugars and sucralose and things like that. Stevia is probably the most researched sweetener there is out nowadays. Also, you’ve got things-in this one in particular-like “coconut mct’s” which is medium-chain triglycerides, that are highly highly bioavailable to the body, and your body uses them as energy very easily.  So, again: the main thing that you’re looking for in a protein is fewer ingredients, less fillers, and if you’re having an issue with whey, I strongly suggestly maybe like a collagen-based protein.  I will say, things like “casein” and those kinds of proteins; casein is actually being linked in a lot of research now, a lot of studies are showing excess consumption of casein can cause cancer, so you’ve really just got to be wary of what you’re buying, what quality brand you’re buying, and making sure that it agrees with your gut. So I hope you found this information helpful, and I will talk to you guys in the next video!
