Here are a few alcoholic drinks you can enjoy that will do the least amount of damage to your fitness goals:


Vodka: Skinnygirl vodkas have been around for a while now. They target those who are trying to stay fit when consuming alcohol. On the label, it claims they have a fewer amount of calories per serving than the regular vodkas. Well, a closer look reveals this is true only because of the smaller amount of alcohol per volume. Simply put, it is a more watered down version of vodka, so watch yourself in thinking this is actually a healthier alternative.


Tequila: Tequila is made from agavin, a naturally occurring sweetener which can lower blood glucose levels. Since tequila is naturally sweet, you can enjoy it by simply adding soda water and perhaps a splash of lime instead of dumping the works into a bowl and making a 400-calorie margarita. Did you know tequila is also gluten-free?


Whiskey: Maker’s Mark is roughly 110 calories per 1.5 oz serving. Jack Daniels is 98 calories per 1.5 oz serving. Jim Beam runs close to 100 calories per 1.5 oz serving.


Gin: Tanqueray runs the highest, at close to 120 calories per 1.5 oz serving, while its competitor, Gordon’s, runs at around 95 calories per 1.5 oz serving.


Wine: Wine is the most calorie-friendly alcohol option. An ounce contains 20 calories, so a basic five-ounce serving is only going to cost you 100 calories. Pretty good, right?  Dessert wines may have more calories, however, because they are a lot sweeter. As you know, wine contains antioxidants, which are very good for your heart. Even though these are healthier options in terms of calories, you also have to take into account the long-term effect of drinking just one drink as opposed to having five or six. In terms of your body’s metabolism, you have to be careful with where you’re at and how much fat you have to lose. That will determine how well your body handles the alcohol.
